As humans, we crave predictability. We plan our days, weeks, and even years in advance, expecting the expected. However, Mother Nature is anything but predictable, and Tropical Storm Arlene is a living testament to this fact.
Armed with the latest tracking technology, we are able to monitor the storm’s path and make preparations accordingly. But with winds reaching up to 70 mph and heavy rain falling at a rate of 2-3 inches per hour, no one can truly predict the full extent of Arlene’s fury.
As she roars her way up the coast, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake, we are reminded of our own mortality. We build our homes, our lives, and our societies in defiance of nature, but it is she who ultimately has the final say.
